If There Were Five of Me… or Maybe Six…
A Reflection on the Creative Selves Within
In the forced stillness of my body, my mind ponders existence and questions my being. If I were divided into five (or in half, then in thirds), I imagine the facets of me would look something like this:
The Logic Builder
Methodical, a Programmer and Polymath
This self loves a good challenge, puzzle and riddle. This version of me thinks in R scripts and dreams in Shiny apps – always wondering, “What more is there to learn?”
To this self, a clean algorithm is poetry, and a well-built program is its own form of art. Whether performing data analysis or designing an educational game, this self thrives in precision and purpose.
The Visionary Artist
Inventive, Daring, and Multidimensional
Somewhere between code and canvas, this version of me dreams in color and simulation. They’re the ones building interactive 3D spaces, where stories aren’t just read—they’re walked through. They view data as a backdrop, a story as a system, and logic as a light. Their goal is to create a parkland where readers and artists can step inside a novel and shape the journey themselves.
The Storyteller Seeker
Imaginative, Introspective, and Intuitive
The weaver of words. Quiet but fierce. This self conjures characters who search for truth, connection, and transformation—building worlds from memory, metaphor, and meaning. My novels in series (Colliding Worlds) and solo (The Quintessence Odyssey), as well as my poetry (such as Shades of Me), are their footprints across the landscape of time.
The Inquisitive Professor
Clarity, Curiosity, and Structure
They love an ink board, a classroom, and a challenge. This one believes in clarity, curiosity, and crafting paths through complexity. Whether it’s statistics, programming, or philosophy, they teach with the heart of a guide—helping others see not just how something works, but why it matters. And yes, they still believe learning can be joyful.
The Philosopher and Healer
Reflective, Resilient, and Spiritual
This self walks more slowly, listens more intently, and feels more deeply.They reflect on life, illness, creativity, and what it means to be whole. This self carries wisdom through adversity, grounding strength in vulnerability, tending to their wounds with honesty and compassion.
They’re the voice in my memoir, the soul behind my poetry, and the steady breath I return to when things fall apart. They write for recovery, teach for justice, and live with grace.
They remind me that we are always becoming—even through pain, even after loss.
The Spirited Child
Good-Humored, Curious, and Irrepressible
This is the playful side of me. This is the self that codes games, draws with abandon, and still gets excited about a deck of cards. They find joy in discovery, in silly rhymes, in the magic of possibility. They remind the others to laugh, to rest, to play.
The truth I hold is that I am all of these—and so are you, perhaps. We are not one self, but many. Not fixed, but fluid. Not finished, but forever unfolding.
And in this moment, I’m grateful for each part of me. Together, they create the story I’m still writing.
